U poseti Matematičkom fakultetu do 2. novembra 2024. boravi prof. Margaret Bayer sa Univerziteta u Kanzasu. Prof Bayer će u utorak 29. oktobra, održati predavanje u sali 840 Matematičkog fakulteta sa početkom u 14.15, u okviru KGTA seminara.
Naslov predavanja: COUNTING FACES AND FLAGS IN POLYTOPES
Apstrakt: This is a survey talk about the numbers of faces and the numbers of chains of faces in convex polytopes, and, more generally, the rank numbers and chain numbers in Eulerian posets. It starts with Euler, goes through the g-theorem on face vectors of simplicial polytopes, and continues with the cd-index. It includes recent work by a variety of authors. Mentioned briefly will be connections to toric varieties, Bruhat order and Hopf algebras.
Kratka biografija predavača: Prof Margaret Bayer je istaknuta matematičarka sa rezultatima u oblastima teorije politopa i algebarske kombinatorike. Doktorirala je 1983. godine na Univerzitetu Kornel u SAD, nakon čega je imala nekoliko pozicija na američkim univerzitetima. Od 2001. godine je redovni profesor na Univerzitetu u Kanzasu. Za svoj rad je nagrađena prestižnim priznanjem „Fellow of the Association for Women in Mathematics“, uz obrazloženje: „for her far-reaching work on the combinatorics and geometry of polytopes; for a long record of successfully mentoring, advising, and supervising women in mathematics at all levels; and for her service to AWM and the profession.“ https://awm-math.org/awards/awm-fellows/2020-awm-fellows/
Poseta prof. Bayer Matematičkom fakultetu je rezultat saradnje sa doc. dr Marijom Jelić Milutinović sa Katedre za topologiju. Saradnja je počela 2018. godine, tokom koje je objavljeno 6 zajedničkih radova, a još nekoliko radova je na recenziji.
