Odeljenje za matematiku, 27. septembar 2024.

Naredni sastanak Seminara biće održan u petak, 27. septembra 2024. godine u sali 301f Matematičkog instituta SANU. U pitanju je zajednički sastanak sa Logičkim seminarom. Biće održana dva predavanja.

Apstrakt:
In my talk I will discuss a recently uncovered connection between two, seemingly unrelated fields: descriptive combinatorics and distributed computing. Descriptive combinatorics investigates the behavior of graphs on the real numbers, restricting the focus to ones which are somewhat nice (e.g., Borel). Distributed computing is a branch of computer science concerned with solving graph theoretic problems on large (but finite) networks. It turns out that very often people in the two fields worked on exactly the same problems and used exactly the same ideas. I will discuss this connection and some instances of transferring techniques back-and-forth between the two fields.

Naslov predavanja: COHERENT SEQUENCES IN HIGHER DIMENSION
 
Apstrakt: I will discuss higher dimensional coherences sequences, generalizing the 1-dimensional ones studied extensively by Todorcevic, whose formulation is connected to certain problems in homological algebra. I will introduce the corresponding notions of coherence and triviality. Then I will focus on some recent non-vanishing results at the level of the second uncountable cardinal and dimension 2. This is joint work with Jeffrey Bergfalk and Chris Lambie-Hanson.
